We will be
returning to Mt Everest (Chomolangma) North Col route during the Spring season
of 2010. The Northern side of the mountain has seen relatively few ascents when
compared with the much frequented, often crowded South Col route. Similarly,
whilst ascents via the South Col have been largely devalued by the massive
siege tactics used by many expeditions, the Northern slopes are still regarded
by mountaineers as a "serious" mountaineering objective. There is much scope
for smaller teams willing to adopt an adventurous fluid approach. Climbers have
been able to make fast, bold ascents, often oxygenless, putting the element of
challenge back into Everest summit climbs.
We offer small groups and individual
climbers the opportunity to join a fully serviced expedition to the standard
North Col route. Our philosophy is to provide all the facilities from Kathmandu
to base camp and on to the top camp including food, tents, high altitude
Sherpas, equipment and oxygen enabling team members to concentrate on climbing
Everest as safely and cost effectively as possible.
THIS IS A SERVICED EXPEDITION - NOT A GUIDED TRIP
We feel that potential individuals or group members should have well rounded mountaineering experience together with a belief in their own ability. Previous high altitude experience together with the ability to work together with other team members is important. We expect prospective members to be technically competent, able to look after themselves on the mountain and comfortable on difficult mixed terrain. We firmly believe that the concept of "Guiding" on 8000
metre peaks is flawed.(The tragic events of a few years ago when Guides
and Clients died along side each other on the South Col route proves that
conclusively).

This expedition is supported, which
means that we provide the following:
Transport infrastructure, permits,
LO/interpreter, hotels (4 days in Kathmandu and as required en-route to the
mountain and return), equipment, Sherpas (ratio of 1:3 sherpa to team members),
cook and cook assistants, porters to ABC, fixed rope, oxygen (4 bottles per
member), masks and regulators, food/fuel on the mountain etc. We also provide an experienced expedition leader whose job is to ensure that things run smoothly. He will be in overall charge of activities on and off the mountain acting as the interface between the team members and the staff, both Chinese and Nepalese. The final decision as to any aspect of the expedition will be the leaders though he will discuss options with the team as a whole as much as possible. He is there to help you climb the mountain and return to the real world in one piece.
Prospective members should however,
be fully aware of the risks and dangers inherent in high altitude
mountaineering. The events referred to previously and described in the book"Into thin air" sum up the dangers exactly. If you are not sure about your
previous experience but you think you have what it takes, phone us for a chat.
If you don't go, you'll never know!
